Falling feed-in-tariffs
As feed-in tariffs continue to decline, having a solar battery makes more sense (and cents!). Feed-in-tariffs are payments you receive as credits on your energy bill for the excess solar you send to the grid. With feed-in tariffs in WA now as low as two cents per kWh for new solar systems, it’s far less profitable to send excess energy to the grid than it used to be. In fact, you’re essentially losing money and contributing to an oversupply of solar energy on the grid network. What is the WA battery rebate?
According to WA Labor, the $387 million Residential Battery Scheme includes one-off rebates of up to $5000 for Synergy customers and $7500 for Horizon customers, as well as means-tested interest free loans for 20,000 low and medium-income households. To be eligible, batteries must meet Australian and local grid standards and can include existing recognised brands as well as locally manufactured batteries. The Scheme also provides funding for local battery manufacturing.
