Plico is a renowned name in the clean energy sector and has garnered the attention and curiosity of many. Our ambition is to make clean energy affordable and accessible for all Aussies – and we’re not afraid to do things differently to achieve this goal. With so many solar providers and solar offerings on the scene, it can be difficult to get the information you need to make an informed choice.
So here you have it, straight from the horse’s mouth: dispelling myths and providing all the answers to your most common questions about Plico and our innovative clean energy offering.
Do I ever own the system?
Yes.
We have different payment arrangements available that offer flexibility and convenience. Whether it’s from day one or at the end of a 5 or 10-year contract, our members will have 100% ownership of their system. You can choose to buy outright, or you have the option to access a low-interest loan. You can buy out of a contract at any time if your circumstances change.
Does Plico offer competitive finance options?
Yes.
At Plico, we understand that investing in a clean energy system can be a significant financial commitment. That's why we offer a range of competitive finance options to suit any budget. Our finance plans are designed to be flexible and affordable, ensuring that more Aussies can access the benefits of solar + battery technology.
Plus, we don’t just provide finance. We throw in ongoing support for the length of your contract and rewards via our Virtual Power Plant (VPP).
Is Plico a finance company?
No.
We are a clean energy company making solar + battery affordable and accessible for all Aussies. To achieve this, we realised we needed flexible, manageable repayment options and we needed to be there to support our members. We were one of the first solar providers to offer a weekly instalment model, which allows you to make savings from day one while paying off your system. We have a team of professionals and local installers responsible for sourcing, installing and monitoring every one of our solar + battery, battery only or solar only systems, and managing our Virtual Power Plant (VPP) fleet of solar + battery systems to support the WA grid and earn rewards for members.
We also have a not-for-profit association – Plico Community Council - that ensures every member of Plico is represented. This model allows us to give back to the wider community through our Future Fund and also allows us to support our members.
So, in a nutshell, we’re not a finance company and we’re so much more than a solar company!
Can I buy the system outright?
Yes.
We provide the option for customers to purchase their systems outright – and many choose this option if they have the means. Buying the system outright gives you immediate ownership and can speed up the payback period on your system. We also give customers the option to be part of our Virtual Power Plant when they buy their system outright, allowing them to access the financial benefits and maximise the value out of their battery investment.
We have upfront prices across our range of solar + battery, battery only and solar only systems, and we’re happy to provide anyone with a quote so they can compare with other providers.
Am I better off being part of the Virtual Power Plant?
Yes.
Being part of Plico’s VPP offers numerous advantages. The main advantage is you’ll earn financial rewards. A VPP allows you to earn money from your energy and play an important role in securing a clean energy future. When you join the VPP, your system is connected to a network of thousands of other Plico systems, creating a collective energy resource that can supply power to the grid during peak demand times. The VPP can also be used to increase demand on the grid – essentially paying Plico members to use more energy from the grid! This helps to stabilise the electricity network while generating financial rewards for those involved.
Being part of the VPP also means you are actively participating in a community-driven initiative to promote clean energy and help achieve our NetZero target. All without having to lift a finger!
Can I choose from a range of systems?
Yes.
We have a range of systems available to every household’s energy needs. Our various battery sizes, which start at 4 kWh, can be paired with 3 kVA, 5 kVA or 10 kVA inverters. Our solar panels can be tailored to your roof space and energy requirements. Plus, our batteries are easy to upgrade should your energy needs change.
We work with a small group of tried and tested battery, solar and inverter manufacturers to ensure we offer our customers quality systems at an affordable price. And because we provide ongoing support for the duration of your contract with us, we know we can get the best outcomes through this lean and highly effective network of key suppliers.
Whether you need a small system for a compact home or a larger, more powerful system for a commercial property, Plico has you covered. Our expert team will work with you to determine the best system for your specific needs and budget, ensuring optimal performance and maximum savings.
Does Plico install solar batteries?
Yes.
Plico is the leading solar battery provider in Western Australia. We have been installing solar batteries since 2019 and firmly believe that you need a solar battery to make the most of your solar savings. Panels only do half the job; a Plico battery is key to unlocking 24/7 savings, greater energy independence, VPP financial rewards and protection from blackouts. As WA’s number one installer of solar batteries, we have the experience and know-how to make your solar battery journey a success. We have a vested interest in ensuring your system is performing optimally to maximise our VPP impact and member benefits. Plus, we provide ongoing support, so you always have someone local to call with any questions.
Is Plico based in Australia?
Yes.
We are an Australian clean energy company, born and bred in Western Australia. Our story began in the coastal town of Dunsborough, in South West WA. Our head office is now in Perth and we have staff based in Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria.
As a local company, we understand the unique energy challenges faced by Australians and are well-equipped to address them with our cutting-edge technology and customer service.
We’re local, just like you.
Is Plico a young company?
No.
We admit that we’ve not been around for as long as some other solar providers, but we’ve certainly pulled our weight! Plico was formed in 2018 in the coastal town of Dunsborough, WA, and since that time we have scaled massively. We are now WA’s number one solar battery provider, managing the largest network of residential solar batteries in the state in our VPP. Now in our seventh year of operation, we’re a trusted clean energy provider with a solid footing in WA and beyond. We have a team of experienced professionals and technicians, as well as local installation teams, driving our clean energy mission, one rooftop at a time.
Is Plico financially secure?
Yes.
We’ve seen solar companies come and go over the years, but you can rest assured that we’re in it for the long haul. We have an ongoing relationship with our members which means we’re with them for up to 10 years. We have ongoing VPP contracts with the Australian Energy Market Operator and local network operators that means we (and them) have an even bigger stake in our long-term success. As the largest privately-owned VPP in Western Australia, we provide a real clean energy solution that helps stabilise the grid. Our sustainability investors, SUSI Partners, are also invested in our community’s success and provide the upfront capital for the majority of Plico systems. We’ve grown rapidly since our inception, and we have big plans for the future.
Conclusion
Investing in a clean energy system is a big decision that has long-term benefits. Having all the facts at hand will help you make an informed decision that’s right for you. Whether you choose Plico for your clean energy system or another provider, you’ll be doing a positive thing for yourself and for the planet.
We disrupted the solar industry all those years ago with our innovative weekly payment model, which has allowed more Aussies to enjoy the benefits of clean energy and make positive change.
