It was a coming home of sorts for Plico recently, as we threw our support behind the Yallingup Shred Fest. In just its second year running, this youth surfing competition is shaping up to be the premier youth surfing event in the south west. And Plico had front row seats to watch the magic unfold!
Established in Dunsborough in 2017, Plico has a strong continued connection with the south west – and particularly the surfing community. Our roots are firmly based in this awesome community of change-makers who believe surfing and looking after the planet go hand-in-hand.
Plus, anything that promotes healthy, happy and climate conscious young people is something we are delighted to get behind.
Shred Lords
Over 85 young surfers participated in the 2022 event in Under 12 to Under 18 competitions for boys and girls. We were blown away by the incredible courage, skill and determination of these young groms, some as young as nine, who took on some of the best waves Yallingup Main Break has to offer. They were all competing for the ultimate glory of being a Shred Lord! Plus, some fantastic surfboards and cash prizes from event sponsors.
There was some exemplary shredding by Dane Henry, Willow Hardy, Maverick Wilson, Ruby Berry, Kade Martin, Olive Hardy, Taylor Flynn and Ily Fraser, who all won in their divisions. Well done frothers! You can check out all the winners on the @yalingupshredfest Instagram account.
About the Shred Fest
Set amongst the stunning melaleucas, white sand lagoons and crystal clear waters of Yallingup, the Yallingup Shred Fest took place April 21 – 24 with two solid days of competition. The event is supported by the community and local business, and is a spring board for young surfers to showcase their shredding talents! Plico joined Rusty Australia, City of Busselton and SunSmart, along with event organisers Yallingup Boardriders, to again present the Yallingup Shred Fest.
Supporting our community
Sponsoring events like ShredFest is just one way we are giving back to the community. As part of our community ownership model, we also have a dedicated Community Fund that provides funding support for projects that enhance the natural environment and community wellbeing. The fund is managed by the association representing Plico members; DCEP.
If you have a community project you’d like us to support, check out the funding opportunities on our website. And if you want to save money, enjoy blackout protection and generate your own clean energy at home or in your business, talk to one of our friendly team members or call 1300 175 426.
